Environmental Monitoring

The Prince William Sound Long-Term Environmental Monitoring Program

Our council designed and implemented an environmental monitoring program to test for hydrocarbons in the Prince William Sound environment through sampling of sediment and mussels.  The resulting data is the largest longitudinal database of hydrocarbon pollution in the Prince William Sound region.

The program is modeled after NOAA’s Mussel Watch Program, a simple, robust and proven methodology that is the longest continuous contaminant monitoring program in U.S. coastal waters.
